Valentine’s day is fast approaching and we at MOI are gearing up to be, and get you all in the mood for LOVE. Nowadays, Valentine’s day is mostly associated with a red hearts-chocolates-flowers romantic kind of love like we see in the movies, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea or be relatable to anyone not in a romantic relationship. But love itself is never one thing, it takes on many different shapes and forms and can show up anywhere – even in the most surprising places.
Finland is one place that champions a unique and inclusive way of celebrating Valentine’s day. In Finland, February 14th is known as the Day of Friendship, a day when all forms of love are celebrated by people in a couple, a throuple, and singles alike. On Friend’s day the Finns like to send greeting cards, share meals, and enjoy sporting activities with their loved ones. We can probably all agree that friendships are some of the most important and meaningful relationships in our lives, but we don’t always take the time or create an opportunity to tell our friends what they mean to us. By embracing the Finnish way and changing our approach to Valentine’s day, we can spread our love in all directions and take the opportunity to express it in small or big ways. As you may or may not know, “moi” – in Finnish – means hello among friends. We at MOI consider you all our friends and wish you a love-filled Valentine’s day of Friendship!
